I have been profoundly angered, saddened and inspired to action by a whole host of GameSpot comments recently.
This one is the latest in a long, long line -- and it might be the one that has finally ensured I'm going to sit down and write something about the issue properly. It's no better or worse than any others; it's just the last straw.
For now I'm just going to present it without any sort of comment at all, other than to state it exists.
"Oh brother, now we get the politically correct propaganda on a video game website. As anAnglo-SaxonProtestant male, I have gotten my share of hate from those promoting 'diversity'. Perhaps they needsensitivity-training to learn how to validate my own idiosyncratic world view. We straight white guys need to start a support group to prevent our emasculation by hate groups like Feminine Frequency. I propose " Massively Masculine Men with Massively Monster Members". Let's fight back against these whiney skanks!"
More, as they say, to follow.

1 Like It's very, very saddening how distorted and overblown quite a few trolls have made this. The relaxation of the site Terms of Use means that unfortunately they can get away with stuff like this easier, but the heart of the matter is why are they posting at all. :(
Bah: It's the same thing whenever there's coverage of women and video games... and religion in video games, ethnicity in video games, violence in video games, sex in video games, and all the other social topics that have come and gone and come again over the years.
If anything this particular comment seems tame compared to most comments; there is a contingent that trolls every single topic posted by Carolyn with hateful, ignorant vitriol. I was a moderator for a month, maybe two; as community manager you HAVE to have seen worse than this.
@Bozanimal I missed the article that this is referring to. I feel it is something that I should be reading. Can you point me in the direction?
@Bozanimal Honestly, I haven't. The amount of stupidity is dumbfounding.
I have even spent some more time on the off topic forum just reading the amount of idiocy that is posted on there, it really is laughable.
@wavey_gravey Bah: Don't let it get to you. The world if full of all different kinds of people, the asshats just happen to be loudest.
I've had to forcefully stop myself from peaking at the comments on articles like that because of all the rampant hate and bigotry. Very disheartening.
I don't really know what to say about this. I don't side with anyone or care about these things. As soon as you suppress ones opinions or ideas you take away their diversity and their freedom. So there can be no true freedom of speech in a world where people take offence.
