Future Games: Day 2
Today's game will be the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3's version of Sonic Unleashed.

After the slump of Sonic 06 and some mixed reactions for Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Unleashed is looking like Sonic's comeback on the next generation of consoles. It's fast, and similar to Super Paper Mario, it blends 2-D and 3-D gameplay at once.

To try to please both 2-D and 3-D fans of Sonic, SEGA has decided to make a game that blends Sonic's levels into a mixture of 3-D and sidescrolling Sonic gameplay. At the begining of each level, Sonic will start out 3-D, and after a while, the levels will start changing the perspective of Sonic. There is a big difference in the way these two perspectives play out. When you play the 3-D parts, Sonic will run fast, and at times, there will be parts where you have to press a button at the right time to avoid an obstacle. This feature is known as the Quick Step, where you will be using either the left or right bumpers to change paths.

Sonic will also have a feature known as the Speed Drift, where Sonic will be able to drift around a corner.

In the 2-D perspective, it will play out like any other 2-D Sonic games. What makes this perspective differ is that Sonic has some different abilities he can pull off, such as wall jumping. Also seen in videos, 2-D seems to be the only perspective that contains Sonic's famous loops.

Sonic levels are also based around platforming in some sections, and some reaction commands, where depending if you get it or not, your path changes. Sonic plays through 9 daytime stages, which are based around Europe, China, New York, Mykonos, and several others unknown at the time. The other half of the game, the nighttime stages, are played as Sonic the Werehog.

As any other Sonic game, they always try to put variety, so their answer to that is slower, combat based, platforming levels. At night, Sonic will transform into Sonic the Werehog and play through the same levels, but just at night. Sonic the Werehog fights these same purple enemies with his long arms. His arms stretch out and are used to smash things, grab hard to reach ledges as well as enemies, and run faster on all fours. Besides the combat, there are sections where you'll have to go through a bit a platforming, and times where you'll have to find something like a statue to move on.
(Unfortunately, there were no pictures anywhere showing Sonic the Werehog gameplay, so please understand.)
Another new ability for Sonic is somewhat similar to the Boost Meter in the Sonic Rush series. It's called Ring Energy, and as you collect more rings, you are able to increase your meter. When you use it, you are able to run up to 300 MPH.

The game, like Sonic Adventure, will feature a hub-world, where you can run around towns and talk to people to either buy things, do missions, or play mini-games. It is said that characters like Knuckles and Shadow could be used to play the mini-games.
Not much else is known about the game yet though.

My opinion, is that Sonic's levels look great. The game looks promising for Sonic's levels. On the other hand, Sonic the Werehog's stages look pretty dull and repetitive in a way. The enemies kept swarming you, there was only like 3 different types of enemies, and like in Sonic 06, the enemies are annoying to take down because they have a lot of life. Also, as shown in the E3 demo, the combat itself looks repetive, and the platforming sections look very slow. I am still giving it a chance though.
I asked a Gamestop employee today, and they say that the game is set to be released in the U.S. on November 19th.

Future Games: Day 1
For a while, I will be doing these things called "Future Games". It's where I talk about soon-to-be-released games and my opinions on them. Today, I will be doing it on a Wii exclusive called Wario Land: Shake It!
The game is going back to Wario Land since Wario Land 4 for the GBA in 2001. Unlike any other games in the series, or any other games in general, this is the first game for consoles to truly have an interactive cartoon design to the game. The animation is incredibly fluid-like and really looks good, especially the anime based cutscenes.

Also added to this game is something known as the Shake meter. When its full, you can shake theWii remote to pound the ground to trigger something on the screen such as a block falling down. Other forms of control include shaking your enemies and controlling your vehicles.

Like the other games in the series, Wario will have his original assortment of moves such as the dash and the Ground Pound. Also, Wario will be able to find treasures in every level.

This game will be filled with great looking bosses which will take a bit of strategy to defeat.

I think the game looks great and will be a really fun game to play to the very end. My only 2 complaints about it, are that the game shouldn't priced at $50 as it is technicaly a 2-D game, and that the game doesnt have full screen support, but instead, the extra space is taken up by 2 bars on the side of the screen which show your progress. Here is an example of what I am talking about.

The game is set to be released in the U.S. on September 29th in the U.S. and September 26th in Europe.
