Crytek Announce Multiplayer Beta Plans! Post CES Media Released!
It has been little more than a month since CES ended and still media from the much anticipated First Person Shooter, Crysis, continues to flow in. CES saw Crytek unviel a single-player demo that primairily highlighted the use of their fictional Nano Muscle Suit. The demo and Crytek themselves recieved alot of positive feedback.
During CES, fansites across the Internet devoted to Crysis, recieved tremendous amounts of Media Coverage from the show. And even after a month since the event ended, Media Coverage and news from Crytek have continued to flow in. Most notably was Crytek's announcement of a Public Multipler Beta which will be released to the general public for use in Crytek's playtesting stage. Crytek have yet to announce a specific release date for the demo yet, although reports from forums seems to indicate that the demo will not be released until April-May. Crysis will reach Alhpa Stage in March and will presumably hit Beta Stage within April-May.
Along with this very exciting news, Crysis-Online (one of the many Crysis Fansites) have had great pleasure in intervewing Crytek's art team. Interesting facts such as details on the development of Crysis's models and props are included. The interview can be seen here, along with these pictures:

Be sure to stay tuned for more information regarding release dates within the coming months. A this stage, Crytek are aiming for a Q2 2007 release.
NOTE: I will provide a link to the interview shortly.- Posted Feb 19, 2007 10:31 pm PT

2006 - My Flashback
With 2006 over and 2007 only just starting i've decided to recap my thoughts on the gaming industry of 2006 and what I personally thought were the highlights.
2006 has been a slow year for me in gaming despite the huge commercial success of other games and Consoles: with only Half-Life 2 Episode One and Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 being the primairy highlights in terms of the games themselves. Other than that I have had the pleasure of gracefully playing the Nintendo Wii which I must admit was an experiance to say the least. My attendance at E3 in May (my second time I might add) was quite a memorable time as well: especially when all of us First Person Shooter fans were given our first glimpse into Crysis, the most anticipated shooter game on the horizon.
The next big thing? The Gaming Convention in Leizperg, Germany gave me and other gamers our first hands-on with Tenkaichi 2 (providing the fanbase with much information about the contents of the game), a sneak-preview of Episode Two (It's hard to believe I was oblivious to its delay until Q2 2007 at the time) and finally a memorable hands-on experiance with the multiplayer component of Crysis. The announcement that, Episode Two along with bundled games Portal and Team Fortress 2, had been delayed again until Q2 2007left me somewhat downhearted. So I turned my attention to Crytek who were still in full-gear for a Fall 2006 release.
Other things that caught my attention in August was Grand Theft Auto IV (a big fan myself I might add), which is being developed by Rockstar Games and slated for an October 2007 release. By September I had already claimed ownsership of Episode One (an outstanding shooter I think) for about 2 months. More than ever however, most of my atention was directed at Tenkaichi 2 the sequel to Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi.
As December of 2006 swept in, the dissapointment continued when Crytek had annoucned that Crysis would be delayed until Q2 2007. With Crysis and Episode Two not out for months to come my full attention was at Tenkaichi 2 which had just been released. With a pocket full of money shortly before Christmas I had raced to the stores and claimed ownsership of the game: and I must admit I enjoyed every second of it and still do.
As 2006 drew to a close, I must admit there wasn't much to look foward to with all my anticipated games not for release until at least 4 months later. I then directed my attention at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) which was to be held in January between the 8th and the 11th. I kept some solace, hoping that some news of Crysis or Episode Two would come my way. Without hearing any news about what was on show I decided to fly to Las Vegas and attend...I was very pleased I did.
Whilst there wasn't any news on Epsode Two at all there was certainly a great deal of news on Crysis. All the major gaming website's editors were there to get as much information as possible about what was on show. Meanwhile I retreated to the Crysis booth where Crytek were showing off a part of a level they ripped out of the game - I was incredibly impressed. When I returned home I found Crysis fansites flooded with previews and media from CES, so believe me when I say i've got enough to keep me occupied.
Whilst there isn't anything exciting coming up in terms of gaming for me in the coming months (especially with E3 gone as we know it), I await Crysis, Episode Two and Grand Theft Auto IV with much anticipation. I look foward to seeing what's in store for gaming for 2007 and hopefully it will be alot better than the last.- Posted Jan 22, 2007 1:23 pm PT

Consumer Electronics Show '07

For the past few days, developers and consumers across the world have gathered together in Las Vegas to celebrate the 40th Consumer Electronics Show: a trade show held once every year in January to promote or introduce new products. Among showcasing Windows Vista and Dirext X 10 CES allowed several gaming companies to show off their games, with Crysis being the centerpoint of all the attention. Fansites of the much anticipated First Person Shooter have had floods of previews and Media sweep in from CES providing new information on the game and its development. Among the crowd were staff members from most gaming sites including Gamespot, IGN, 1UP, Gamespy, Extreme Tech, Eurogamer and many more who had the chance to sit down and talk to developers and consumers alike. CES has once again been a phenomoneal success, and with E3 just around the corner we can expect much more things to come.
In the Microsoft and Direct X 10 section, Crysis was easily the centerpoint of all the attention at CES providing the Lead Designer Jack Mamais with alot of positive feedback. Crytek had managed to pull out one of their levels from the game and showcase it to the public. Below are just a few of the screenshots released at CES
