February the first is World Hijab Day

The quotation reads:

"We invite both the non-Hijabi Muslim and

non-Muslim sisters across the globe to

wear the Hijab for one day."

kind of a try it and see.

Much of my life I have known women who wore scarves

whenever they went out of doors and I reckon that the

hijab is quite similar.

If you wear one let us know and if you don't or never have

then think about giving it a shot for just one day.

Some Muslim girls and women wear it because it is a matter

of pride, especially in countries where Islam is a minority

just as wearing a cross or crucifix or star of david for Christians/Jews.

@N-REAL the U.S. also has a good sized Muslim minority that is growing at a rate that outpaces the rest of us to it is not unusual to see headcovering - who knows what the future will bring, but if the birthrate continues at the present pace they  only need to have patience not a jihad lol

Well what can I say...

Some muslim woman especially in the countries where they have the freedom of choice like to wear Hejab as a mean of identity and even rebelion in western countries. Some wear it as a traditional national clothing, and matastig is right, many are forced to wear it against their will.

Also, covering the hair has a long history and is not a solely Islamic law. Woman (and somethimes man)  covered the hair in almost all historical periods. Nakedness was always a habit of primitive folks and highly civilized nation usually covered their body and hair. When you see Maddona's pictures and sculptures, she is almost always wearing a head covering.

I could see this idea being applied to Winter wear.  "It's the Marf!  A mask and a scarf in one!  And now you can have one through this special T.V. offer for only $19.99!"

Actually... I guess it's more of a hood than a mask.  Horf?

@Ovirew it is a scarf and I believe you have seen a lot of women wearing scarves when it rains the weather is cold outside it is nothing new or revolutionary.    A full hijab is not obligatory just a regular scarf in any colour or design you like is all that is meant but I see what you mean - someone made money by wearing their robes backwards and calling them "snuggies" why not try the same with a designer hijab.

   good idea.

@matastig a couple of Islamic governments have rules that many of the people do not agree with and I also didn't mention some of the things Christians have forced on their people because it has nothing to do with this day.
