TO INFINITY....AND BEYOND!
The Future

I was sat playing Resistance last night on my PS3 and was thinking...where can a company go next with a console that has, at the present time peaked in terms of its graphical capabilities. Im sure we have more to see from PS3 in terms of what developers can do with the hardware, but the hardware itself is top of the range.

The same goes for Microsoft. So when they design a new console, what are they going to do? Make the visuals even more realistic?? is that what the consumer even wants?

Which leads me to think that Nintendo may have hit the nail on the head with the Wii. Graphics have reached a peak and to be honest, im a little tired of the standard GT's and Colin Macrae's and the other more realistic than life simulators. The Wii on the other hand isnt a power house, but what it offers is something new. Perhaps this is where its success lies?

So to the future, its inevitable that Sony and Microsoft will probably trudge down the path of improving the hardware, increasing processor speed and making even more graphical improvements but will this win out over innovation? I think that Nintendo, off the back of the Wii success will endevour to follow on with an even more innovative console that engages the consumer with the game. Is this what consumers want? i guess only time will tell but if sales and media hype are anything to go by, I would say Nintendo are on to a winner!

My New PS3 - The Ups and Downs!

I have just bought a PS3...very exciting, but it came at a cost!

The up points:

-Six axis controller is charged off the console (I didnt know that) - The machine looks awsome - The visuals are impecable - Free Online play

The Down Points:

- I had to trade in my N64, Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Xbox and snes, all with games (and i still had to stump up £200 to afford it)!!! - It doesnt come with an HDMI cable (I spent the first day playing with a component cable and its awful) - The controller doesnt come charged ready to go - Downloads take AGES!!

However, now i have it, i wouldnt change it! Resistance is awsome and i got Xmen 3 for free. Ive just ordered Motorstorm and i cant wait. So all in all...im a happy PS3 owner.

N64...Best Console Ever?

I think about the good old days a lot. The days when grass was greener, the skies were less polluted and the N64 reigned supreme.

Not only was it an ugly console, with an oddly shaped controller (with a third of it barely used (stupid d-pad)) an add-on that we never got to see in Europe and memory cards that were as reliable as a candle in the wind, it was also the greatest thing to grace the gaming world.

It wasnt the console itself that made it special, it was the games! Sony had moved on and was producing games on mass on CD, but Nintendo stuck it out with clunky old cartridges, but it didnt matter, It was the content.

I remember the very first time i played an N64. It was in a Virgin Cinema and they had a pod with Goldeneye playing. I couldnt for the life of me get to grips with the controls, i couldnt find the button to shoot the weapons but i was hooked from that moment on. I went on the most almighty campaign of terror against my parents until they conceeded and bought me one (ithink it cost about £600!) and you couldnt get me away from it. The only console i had before then was a Sega Master System with built in Alex the Kidd, so you can imagine why i was so excited.

So here we are, a decade later and i still love my N64. Its hooked up to my HD Flat Screen TV and im so happy Nintendo have devised the Virtual Console on Wii. It means that all those games i had wanted in the past i can now have!

Here is my list of all time favourite N64 Titles; Mario 64, Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Blast Corps, Jet Force Gemini, Duke Nukem 3D, Pilot Wings,Body Harvest, Zelda OoT and Zelda MM. This is just a fraction of the games i played and enjoyed but just looking at this list shows the quality that that console had to offer.

I want a PS3!

Ok, i have to admit, i did jump on the media bandwagon a bit when they started knocking the PS3. Having been a Nintendo fan since the NES, i always thought Sony was just this big company, launching money at the games industry to make its console the best. I had a PS1 & PS2 but i always liked my N64 and Gamecube more! However, now i have seen motorstorm, and Resistance in motion, i have to say my opinion has begun to change! I remeber the day i bought my PS2 and stuck GTA 3 in and was literally gob-smacked at the visuals. Whilst im not overly impressed with visuals (in that i cant see a major difference between them and XBOX 360) i do like the look of the games in general.

I am also a single child (and as such was spoilt when i was younger) and i have to say my 'I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW' side (ALA jeckyll and hyde) is starting to show through.

Damn Sony for making it soooooo expensive!

Sony Give Away Free HDTV With PS3 at Launch! Good PR Stunt? I Think Not!
I was outraged to see that Sony, in their infinite wisdom have awarded 120 Londoners a free television for queing up to buy their latest console offering. The result of this is as follows - 120 very happys PS3 owners! Millions of disgruntled gamers such as myself who have no PS3 as they have priced it way out of the general publics price range and probably won't buy one as it has received nothing but bad press from its conception. Do Sony honestly beleieve they have helped their situation? Surely it would have been better to give away a game with every purchase so that instead of this being a reward for those with nothing better to do than stand in Virgin Megastores basement for hours on end, it was an apology to the European Gamers for letting us down.
