Battlefield: Bad Company
I recently borrowed this game from a friend not really knowing what to expect. I'd played the demo and thought it wasn't BAD, but wasn't anything special either. That has remained my opinion to this day after completing the singleplayer mode on normal in about two sittings. First off I kinda liked the idea of there being a laid back 'expendable' faction of the army, and the characters were quite entertaining at times. And the story was different so that was good for once.
Now I (and everyone else I know) compares this to Call of Duty 4, and rightfully so in my opinion as they are the two kinda 'must have' or 'must play' FPS games out at the moment. The first thing that everyone mentions in the length of the levels compared to CoD, and most people preferred the more fleshed out levels of BC. But not me. I felt they were just TOO long, and quite frankly BORING. Sure being able to blow almost everything up was fun, for about 5 minutes.
But meh, and what was with having to unload a full clip into someone in order for them to die. That brings me onto the enemies, and what a mixed bag they are. One minute they will spot you conveniently with the eyes that have been placed in the back of their heads, that also see through walls and trees. Or they will happily stand right next to you without a care in the world, and beg you to fill their face full of lead.
One moment in the game that has stayed in my mind, and what bought me to realise just how terrible the enemy AND team mate AI is. On the level in which you make your way to the dock, and there are tones of containers, I was hiding between some of these containers with Redford standing to my right a few feet away. Next thing I know I'm being shot on my right side. So I turn to see if Redford's either died or ran off, only to see Redford CROUCHING IN FRONT OF THE MERC, FACING A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DIRECTION, SHOOTING SOMEONE ELSE AND LETTING ME DIE. That's another thing, the enemies ALWAYS, ALWAYS only ever shoot at Preston and no one else, your team mates don't have a mind of their own and will kill about 4 enemies each throughout the entire game. You will know they have when you hear one shout 'YEAH I GOT ONE!' Well done dude I just got about 5. Anyways, I've lost my flow now because I started watching some Buckethead on YouTube so I'll leave it at that.
Peace
