    Follow the Leader

"The Wii is a gimmick. Motion controls? Yeah right." Comments such as these were commonplace in 2006 and the months leading up to the launch of Nintendo's new creation. Skeptics everywhere doubted the hardware and questioned the potential of the Wii. It's nothing but the biggest gimmick to hit the gaming industry, they said. Three years later it is almost impossible to hear those voices from the top of the sales charts, and skeptics have promptly changed their names, grown mustaches, and packed up to move to the most remote villages of south India. However, the Wii's outstanding and well-merited success has somewhat backfired, and has "inspired" the devious and scheming developers at Microsoft and Sony to try to come up with some sort of solution to end the soaring sales (uh-oh, my bias is showing!). "Hmmm.." they say. "Let's see. People actually enjoy the Wii. This is the biggest outrage since the ending of Halo 2! What about graphics?! We have HD! Alright, the cards are on the table now. Motion controls work, so we're going to pull a Leon S. Kennedy -esque about-face and come out with our OWN motion controls!" Thus, Project Natal enters the world. I am going to focus more on Project Natal rather than Sony's motion controls simply because of the fact that I know more about it than I do Sony's idea. After months of ridicule from my friends for my love-affair with the Wii, ridicule that included the standard "the Wii sucks" or "the controls don't even work" and "it's a kiddie console," my friends have suddenly turned a blind eye to their past judgment and have done everything but deify the new Project Natal, which is strikingly similar to Sony's Eye Toy (hmm...interesting..). It seems like Microsoft could just peddle any good-looking, blood-splattering, wallet-lightening game or software and they would eat it up like John Goodman at a chili cookoff. Also, some part of me is absolutely baffled by Microsoft's move. The Xbox 360 is thought to have a "hardcore gamer" reputation to it, and Microsoft has definitely made some statements about it's target market with its direction in the industry. Now it wants to try to appeal to the whole family, and I'm sure that when a family is out to buy a console and they see the $250 "casual" Wii and the $300-$400 "hardcore" Xbox, it will appreciate Microsoft giving it options. By the way, that last sentence was sarcasm in case the text doesn't do my intended tone justice. The target market of the Xbox 360 is 13-33-year-old males, which is perfectly fine. However, I'm not sure how many gamers in this market will accept the more "family-friendly" experience that Project Natal seems to offer, but if my group of friends is any indicator it is a lot (at least until Microsoft reveals the PRICE!!). I think that my group of friends is not a good indicator, however. I can't imagine college dorm rooms filled with people playing such jaw-dropping and hardcore games as "walk around like a dinosaur for some reason" or "skateboarding by jumping up and down." I can't even imagine college dorm rooms having enough room to play this!! Also, the Wii has been criticized for its overload of mini-game titles, and even I agree that they have saturated the market (although some are alright), but it's hard to come up with any other form of game for Project Natal seeing as how it lacks any buttons or control other than by motion. Either way, these next couple months leading up to the software's 2010 release will be very interesting, and I can pretty much guarantee that there will be a follow-up to this entry because I surely forgot something. Thanks for reading, and please comment with your opinion, because I DO VALUE opinions from die-hard Microsoft or Sony fans as long as they avoid any jabs concerning the "kiddie" or "inferior" mindset they have about the Wii. Keep it clean!!!

Someone Needs to be Fired for This...

I cannot believe what I read on gamepro.com regarding the review of The Conduit. GO READ THE REVIEW and tell me that the reviewer is not the biggest idiot since sliced bread! It's obvious he has some sort of personal vendetta against the Wii and anyone who ever liked it. He mentions it's "bumblebee engine" and how the graphics of The Conduit are terrible. TERRIBLE!!!! I am outraged by this review. The only way I could understand this guy is if I found out he was blind and deaf. He says the controls of the game are horrible. YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE ANY AND ALL CONTROLS!!!! Maybe he forgot the part of the review where you actually have to play the game. This is the worst review ever, no doubt. He also suggests that the Wii does not make next-gen titles and that Nintendo is to blame for the Conduit's short-comings because it made an "inferior" console. I will never go to gamepro.com ever again!!! Also, he talks about how he DIDN'T PLAY THE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER AND THAT HE SKIPPED THE CUTSCENES!!! HE ALSO COMPLAINS ABOUT HOW CONFUSING AND BORING THE STORY IS, which I can see why he would say that BECAUSE HE SKIPPED THE STUPID CUTSCENES!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! THIS GUY IS A JOKE!! I DEMAND A REAL REVIEW!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
