  Lanski

  Well Respawn LAN v12 Soviet Lanski is coming up this weekend. I'm really looking forward to it, it's going to be pretty intense as there are 626 people have registered to go(max 450 can attend). This time there is going to be a 6v6 TF2 comp that i am going in which is replacing the 5v5 DotA comp, none of the other comps really interest me though. This time round though i'm really hoping to get in some more gaming as opposed to all the file sharing that happened last time, although i will be getting a new HDD before i go there as my 750Gb is almost full.

  The only thing i'm not looking forward to is avoiding telling my friends where i'll be for the weekend. I think it's kind of sad that gaming at this level is frowned upon even though the whole event is probably more social than anything else. I already consider myself "Nerdy" as is but i know i'd get some strange looks if i told alot of my friends. Thankfully i do have a small group of friends that are interested in gaming that i can talk to about that kind of stuff. Hopefully it becomes more acceptable in the future, i'm already seeing some change with friends who would never touch a game last gen now playing online this gen*!

  Am i the only person who thinks the more recent COD entrys are not outstanding?

  Is it just me or does everybody on the planet seem to blindly love and adore the COD series, specifically 4 and WAW?

  I've played the COD series since the original call of duty on the PC, at it's time i thought it was a great fun game with plenty of polish albeit nothing out of the ordinary. Since then ive also played the ps2 version of COD1, COD2(360), COD4(360/Ps3/PC) and COD:WAW(Ps3/PC). One thing ive noticed is that the series hasn't really changed that much, aside from the depature from WW2 in COD4(much welcomed change). When i say it hasn't changed much i'm referring to almost every aspect of the game and even believe that the engine at it's core is the same as the one used in the original, although consistenly upgraded.

  I think the reason i don't like is basically because it's so popular and that i'm sick of seeing a new sequel each year with only incremental changes not unlike how apple slightly upgrades its range of products every six months or so. This annoys me because it continually receives huge amounts of praise even though your basically getting the same thing each year with a few improvements and additions here and there. To clarify im referring to the core game and technology behind it, not the content which is refreshed with each iteration.

  Basically i dislike the more recent COD titles because in my eyes they don't seem to have grown much since the original, it's still full of fast, arcadey linear action. Enemies are still cheap shots and spawn at certain points. The static enviroments lack anything in the way of interactivity. There isn't really much in the way of A.I., it feels more like a shooting gallery. The game relies to heavily on triggers and scripted events. The weapon sounds seemed to have been toned down significntly since COD2 and the guns feel a bit like pea shooters . If they could address all these issues and ultimately bring the game up to 2007 standards then i would be happyily jump on board. However, the game doesn't pretend to be somthing it's not, it is well aware thats its fast and furious romp for those who want a quick shooting fix and caters superbly to this, i guess i just want it to be something it's not. It's all the avid fans who hype it to be something it's not, thats what annoys me.

  Also congrats to anyone who got through that terrible jumble of words, this is my first blog and i basically vented all my frustration in one big mess.
