tennis12master's Blog

This is my blog. I'll most of the time talk about games, but if my mind wanders, I may talk about something else. If you need my Wii and/or Smash FC, you can find them in my first blog on GS ever. ALL HAIL DOMOKUN!
Tagged!! kinda...

Well before when I was on Thug2wasteland's profile in his blog it said that if you read this, then you're tagged. Well...I guess that counts, right? Allright here's some things you didn't know about me.

1. I have a girlfriend

2. I used to have a habit of biting my nails...but now I've encouraged myself to stop

3. When I get older I want to learn about game design (particularly game enviornments) or be the one who provides inventive ideas for the game. And if that fails, I'd like to be an author (in particular fantasy, science fiction)

4. OR if those ideas for a future job fail, then I'd like to be a pro tennis player.

5. As you can already tell from my profile name, I play tennis. And I'm quite good

6. I'm a bit naive...a bit, I said

7. I kind of worry too much about things

8. I belive that dragons exist- not those one's that crawl around, the ones that actually fly and breathe fire

9. My favorite genre of music is Rock.

10. One of my favorite songs ever is Chop Suey!

And there you have it. One little tidbit I forgot to include was that I've been playing tennis for 6 years.

Well feel free to ask any other questions you have, and I'll answer them.

Lack of activity

Hey guys, as you may have noticed, I've been showing a lack of activity here on GS....just a lot of things have been happening in my life, and I havn't had the time to come here. Also, sorry for the bad news, but because I'm just too busy, the Zelda story that I was planning to post has been postponed....for possibly a long time. But in other news, I'm getting my replacement Ipod today! Yayah!! Ok, I gotta go now.

Games- what have they become?

Over the past few years, we've seen many changes in the way games are made and played. Why, just recently, the release of GTAIV triggered an entertainment phenomenon, causing millions to purchase the game in a single night, making it the fastest-selling game of all time. And sure, I'm cool with that even though I don't have a 360 or PS3. But, more importantly, why would anybody not be cool with it, even if they have a Wii also? I mean, what has happened to the video game industry that makes it a competition between the consumer, not just the publisher? Well, I'll tell you what: it's the different systems. Why, I the other day was at the local swimming pool, and when I decided to buy some skittles candy at the snack bar, a friend said to me, "Dude...why get skittles when you can get peanut M,M's?" It's all opinion. The same with game systems. But, the subject matter is completely different. I seriously doubt anyone's going to argue over whether skittles are better than M,M's, and argue over it enough for the conversation to get serious. But it's all possible with game systems. Why, a few years ago, my friend's father was saying to me, "You know Matt, games were so much better in the old days. Pretty much anybody who had a game system had an NES, and game development consisted of possibly 2 people. And even with those small numbers, a game could be a hit." Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that games today suck, because that is certainly not true. But, I do believe that gaming was a little better in the old days. Everything was cheaper, so much simpler, and 8-bit was considered state-of-the-art graphics! Amazing how in just 20-25 years, technology has changed so much. Nowadays, gaming is a lot about competition, not just gaming. Why, it's even popped up in politics and news channels. Recently, I found a chart on Cnet.com predicting how well the current consoles will do in the coming years. Check it:

Crazy I tell you, crazy. So many people are focused on how well the consoles will do, yet they are missing the whole point. Play games as forms of entertainment, not competition! Thanks everybody, for reading this.

NOTE: The far right side of the chart is indeed not cut off. It is perfectly placed.

Nintendo...is it really a kid's company?

Nintendo...is it really a kid's company? I think not, but some people in this world say yes, it is a kid's company. Take for instance a friend of mine. When I saw him one day, we were just chatting about random things and, let me tell you, my friend's mind is a little....well.....elsewhere. Sometimes he'll just say something without realizing it could hurt someone else's feelings or whatnot. I also noticed that if my friend is excited, he may say something bad. Now, this wouldn't be too big of a problem if my friend was a Nintendo fan. Well, HE ISN'T. He's an Xbox devotee, and I have no idea how exactly our friendship started, but I can tell you one thing: It can be Hell. As I was saying before, we were just talking about random things, and I decided to bring up an interesting Wii article I read the other day. As I finished saying the word "Nintendo" I heard him mutter one of my most hated sentences in the world. He muttered "Nintendo's a kid's game company." I stared at him in awe. How could one of my best friends say such a thing, when knowing that I'm such a devoted Nintendo fan? HOW? Well, it's like this. My friend also, as said before, doesn't realize that what he says can sometimes be harmful to others. When I said to him, "Hey, Ryan, how could you say something like that to me, when you know perfectly well, that I'm a Nintendo fan?" He simply responded that he's just telling the truth. At this point on, I was furious. My mind was thinking like a racehorse; formulating ways to stop my friend in his tracks. He said to me, "Matt, seriously, Nintendo IS a kid's company. I mean, look at their main games. Mario? Rated E. Pikmen? Rated E. Animal Crossing?....Rated E." Then he said to me, "Now, I know what you're thinking. There's always the Metroid and Zelda series, but there's one problem with that Matt. They're rated TEEN! Nintendo pretty much doesn't have any M rated games published and/or developed by them." That's when I ingeniously said to him, "Ryan, I just thought of something. You are, in a way, right. HOW you are right, to answer your questioning look, is by this. Look at Sony and Microsoft. Do you EVER see any decent E games besides Viva Piņata for the PS3 and 360? They specialize in making M games. Nintendo specializes in making E and T rated games. The thing is, with M games, only 17+ can buy them without parents. But, with E games, any can. E.....is for everyone." And with that, I walked off, leaving him dumbfounded.

Just wanted to throw that little story in to let you guys know of an important conversation, or more like an important argument that I once had. By the way, me and my friend resolved the conflict a few days later.

Signing out, Tennis12master
