TheMark's Journal

... For The Mature Gamer
Update: Winter 2004-2005
As promised above, I had started either Freedom Fighters or Indiana Jones ... actually, I went with both. I'd gotten well into Freedom Fighters before several things came up, and I put it aside. For one, college football got going, and that keeps me pretty busy. Then, Halo 2 came out, and I pretty much devoted all my gaming time to that.

So, since I've finished H2, and college football was wrapped up last night, I've gotten back into FF and IJ. I'd also picked up a cheap copy of "XIII", and I gotta say, that's turned out to be one of my all-time favorites. Unfortunately, my disc has an issue, and the game locks at a particular point every time. Bummer.

For now, I'm going to concentrate on getting FF and IJ finished ... I hate leaving games unfinished, especially for as long as I have those two. I'm roughly halfway through FF and maybe 10% done with IJ, so I should be busy with those for a little while.

Fortunately, the next couple of months will be slow on releases that hold any interest in me. It looks like by March, though, things will be picking up, so I've got to start saving my pennies. The games I'm most looking forward to are Star Wars Republic Commando and Darkwatch. Other games that have my interest are Pariah and Advent Rising.

So, until next time (probably in the spring), happy gaming!

Kicking Off...

The first video game console I ever had was the original Atari ... complete with Combat, Pong, and Space Invaders. I remember when Pac-Man on the Atari was the "Halo" of it's time. The next console I had after that was an Xbox, over 20 years later. I bought it to play NCAA Football (NCAA 99 on the PC was getting really old), and for not much else. Since then, I've expanded a little bit into a sort of casual gamer. I'm usually always in the middle of an NCAA dynasty, and also have one, sometimes two, other games rolling at the same time.

I just finished "Halo" this week. LOL ... I warned you I was "low-key"! Anyway, I was bitten by the Halo bug a few months ago when playing deathmatch with some friends, and finally got the game myself about a month ago. It's a very cool game, although very repetitive in some parts. What I really liked about it is the fact that there were many checkpoints along the way, so that when you die, you never have to go back to a spot where you were 30 minutes ago. So you never get frustrated playing it.

I did pick up "Battlefront" the day it came out, so I'm not totally behind the times. So I'll be working on that, and maybe one of my older games that I haven't gotten to yet. Maybe "Freedom Fighters" or "Indiana Jones". We'll see ... more later.
