    Silent hill movie

just got back from seeing the silent hill movie with shirl. it kicked ass. easily the best game to movie translation EVER. at first i wasnt quite sure what to think. the setup seemed a touch cheesy, but beyond that....

they sure got the feel of the town right, as well as the monsters. all the monsters are dead on perfect. especially pyramid head. i dont think they couldve done a better job with pyramid head if they tried.

musically, they took most of the music from silent hill 2 and 3. i can understand why, since the soundtrack in 1 is a little too heavy industrial to be appropriate.

plotwise, its based upon the plot of the original silent hill, with a few noticable variations apart from the obvious. for example, the purpose of the cult is never fully explained, the addition of christabella, alessa's dark side, dahlia's character, what happens to sybil, officer gucci, and pyramid head.... the list goes on and on. in one sense, its bad that they changed so much... but on the other hand, it would be a bit boring if it was EXACTLY the same. the director said early on that he cared more about capturing the look and feel of silent hill then getting the story EXACTLY the same.. and that attitude shows. the feel is captured as perfectly as can ever hope to be expected. so the variations can be forgiven. the changes couldve been ALOT worse.

all in all, its a fantastic movie, and can easily stand on its own.

now if only all game to movie directors took the material as seriously as gans did....

    update

ugh, its been forever since ive been to gamespot.

well, lets see... after that fiasco at the arcade, i took a few weeks off, then went back to my old job, which is temping at warehouse jobs. first couple jobs i had were brutally tough. to the point where i couldnt work for more then a few days a week. considering the amount i was being paid, it was barely worth it. but, money is money.

it got better, and i worked on and off at this place which imported ramen, and another place that rented out lights for movies and concerts.

my last job was for the last few weeks at this company that manufactures chainsaws and parts. that was probably my best job so far. now thats over with, im wondering what the next temp job will be....

oh, and i got tekken 5 and metal gear solid 3 subsistence. got god of war too. at least im not getting TOO behind in my gaming purchases....

things come to a head, finally

well, like the subject says, things came to a head today. my now ex manager got around to firing me. i knew it was only a matter of time till it happened. though im not sad about losing my job, the part that annoys me is the somewhat underhanded way she went about doing this, and her general attitude.

looking back upon it, her training a new guy was pretty much a tip off of things to come. while she was training him, i overheard her saying something bad about me to him. i dont think she realized that i heard her. plus it would also explain why every time she came to the job, she wanted to count my float, or was nitpicking about something or another. basically looking for any reason to get rid of me.

so today was payday. everyone had their cheques in the front drawer, to be picked up. everyone but me that is. around 4pm, the manager called and said she was sorry that she forgot my cheque, and was coming by to drop it off. "FORGOT" indeed. so around 5 she came, not bothering to even say hi to me. about the only thing she did ask was if i had found an ipod. after a second she said of course you havent, in a way that suggested either im too stupid to find it or that perhaps i took it. so then the manager asks to count my float. ok, fine. so we counted it, and i was a dollar and a half over the amount i should be at. then she says that ive failed my probationary period and that im no longer needed. she then gave me my cheque and told me to get out. fine by me. then she goes on about the reasons why: that i was rude to her in the bathroom about the incident where she got on my ass about wiping the counter, rude to the customers and of course mentioning that i tossed away her pop can. really, pouring the small bit of pop on the counter to prove a point and belittling me is SO inredibly professional.

the part that bugs me is that she didnt come to me with a legitimate problem, but instead talked not even behind my back about such things with the new guy. that and she was acting very rude to me, but of course that was perfectly ok. and the best part, was that she talked about the pop can incident as one of her reasons for firing me. i said that she left it right next to some trash, and what would she have done in my place. naturally she completely dismissed my point of view in her condecending way. of course, she is the manager, she can do no wrong. i couldve started swearing a blue streak at her, but i decided to take the high road. i just called her unprofessional and a coward for acting the way she did. i think that got to her more then any swear words wouldve. i also really appreciate that she was so honest and upfront with me. really, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. especially since we were friendly early on. but she got far too demanding and being a control freak. also not being able to admit being wrong about ANYTHING is just pathetic.
