" IN COUNTRY "
Here it goes;
GTA 3 and GTA VICE CITY have some definite borrowings from SCARFACE the movie (also there is some Vietnam links.)
Being an avid fan of this series some of the songs and images are just embedded in my mind from infinite hours of gameplay, someone at work told me I was wasting my time playing computer games but honestly there is nothing else I would rather be doing.
A few weeks ago I was lying in bed after finishing up from work at 10 at night. I was wreck tired and was flicking through the channels to see if there anything decent on. Bingo: SCARFACE the movie was starting. Perfect.
As I watched the movie some of the settings, clothes and above all some music tracks hit me.
In the niteclub BABYLON when Tony Montana ( Pacino) is dancing with Elvira Hancock ( Michelle Pfeiffer) the song " She's on Fire " is playing. This song features on the radio station FLASHBACK FM.
In the movie SCARFACE while Montana is making his first major deal (the chainsaw episode!!) his crew are talking to some bikini clad bimbo's skating around the street. The song is also playing here and the girls are dressed identically the the girls in Vice city.
Also while in the niteclub the song "Push it to the Limit" is playing. This song can also be heard in the niteclub, also from Flashback FM.
The clothes and suits which Tony Montana and the crooks wear in the movie are very similar to Tommy Vercetti's outfits in GTA VICE CITY.
Probably the most glaringly obvious element is the infamous CHAINSAW SCENE in Florida.
728 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, Florida. This is where the action goes down in the movie. There is an apartment you can get in Vice City called Apartment 3C (located Ocean Beach Vice City). The apartment and décor of the interior are very similar to the set used in the movie. In the Hotel which Vercetti is first holed up in the setting is identical to this famous movie scene also.
Tommy Vercetti's Mansion Vercetti Estate, in Vice City is a carbon copy of the office which Montana works out of. The furniture, doors, stairs and security camera's all add to the ambience here.
I,m sure there are a host more similarities but to me these were the most obvious when I was waching the film that nite.
Remind you of the Niteclub Babylon?
On some radio advert in Vice City can't remember which station an add is playing and a kid is heard saying to his father 'dad nobody wants to hear your stupid Vietnam stories'.
The Biker Missions in Vice City , Big Mitch Baker is a veteran of Vietnam and makes references to how the US betrayed him. At some other point Vercetti mentions how he was locked up during the war.
A mission called Phnom Penh 86exists and I think it refers to some evacuation of this city at some pint during the war.
Play the games and enjoy all the hidden jokes references and the numour.
If you guys are really bored at work or at home have a look at my youtube review of Medal of Honor.
Okay guys just a brief note to say that I have installed and played Black ops for 2 1/2 hours now and Jasus it surley kicks ass.
I have played it on medium difficulty on the singleplayer campaign : completed the Cuban , Russian prison camp and Russian missile silo levels and just started the Nam part.
The opening looked amazing with the purple smoke and of course Fortunate Son playing in the background. Set initially in Khe Sahn it looks a lot like Ghosttown form Conflict Vietnam and the part I played felt like a part in Men of Valor set during the TET running around a basecamp with Charlie breaking through. Nuff said, It looks and plays amazing.
Multiplayer: Just played a few training levels and it felt good. Went online and played 20 mins in a real fight and handled myself okay . Got 2 kills and all.Going to concentrate on the single player and then launch into the multiplayer big time.
Overall first impressions is that it wipes the floor on Medal of Honor. Working on a youtube review for MOH due out v.soon.
The narrative is a bit weird granted ............. to be continued.
