Gamespot recently released a video series called, "What Gamer Are You?" I found it to be a fun 4-video series that does what everyone loves: tells us stuff about ourselves! Seriously, though, what it does is categorizes us into the different "types" of gamers based on gameplay traits that transcend genres and specific games. I have compiled the videos below and written out the gist of the different kinds of gamers since I didn't see the list written down anywhere, and I find it useful to have in one spot.

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTw6jdv2N-3VOvl548I4jY

Read below and tell us all: What Gamer Are You?

Part 1 -Completionist,Speed Runner, Exterminator, Extrovert

Completionist - map exploration and 100% completion/trophies/items, often replays games or replays from end of game saves to get all endings. (Compatible with: Exterminator)

Speed Runner - goes strictly for end-game win and will get through any means; typically ignores NPCs, dialogue and story and just wants fun gameplay through and through preferably fast-paced games. (Compatible with: Extrovert)

Exterminator - everything must die, no matter how big or small, not as into dialogue or story; prefers FPS and hack-and-slash. (Compatible with: Completionist, Extrovert)

Extrovert - multiplayer, guild, groups prevail as socializing is the goal; genre is not as important. (Compatible with: Completionist, Exterminator)

Part 2 - Reader, Builder, Introvert, Analyst

Reader - reads every guide, data pad, dialogue and gathers all information; prefers lore-rich worlds usually found in older RPGs. (Compatible with: Completionist, Analyst and Introvert)

Builder - creationist, prefers simulation games where management is important, and creating items with crafting and tools in other games. (Compatible with: Analyst, Introvert)

Introvert - typically solos, sees gaming as more or a relaxing habit and enjoy exploring worlds to their heart's content. (Compatible with: Reader, Analyst and Builder)

Analyst - puzzles are the main draw to games, manipulating physics and problem solving; enjoys tactics (Compatible with: Introvert, Builder)

Part 3 - Ghost, Hoarder, Difficulty Snob, Min/Maxer

Ghost - master of stealth and disguise, often plays as a thief or rogue; prefers tactics over outright gun play in many genres. (Compatible with: Analyst)

Hoarder - gathers all resources, sometimes at the expense of teammates in multiplayer co-op games; rarely spends money unless it furthers their loot. (Compatible with: Completionist, Builder)

Difficulty Snob - only plays on the toughest difficulty; does not like games that cater to the masses and dumb things down. (Compatible with: Exterminator)

Min/Maxer - RPGs are the main genre where math reigns supreme; will explore other genres where customization of stats is exploitable; can delay groups as items are thoroughly analyzed prior to moving on with the game. (Compatible with: Completionist, Hoarder)

Part 4 - Character Builder, Ultimate Evil Doer, White Knight and the Apologist

Character Builer - tweaking and completely customizing their character's appearance, back story, anything that CAN be tweaked. (Compatible with: Builder)

Ultimate Evil Doer - enjoys all manner of mayhem and cruelty, will often destroy NPCs and their weapons do not discriminate. (Compatible with: Exterminator)

White Knight - always the paragon, white knight, displaying justice and charity; completes all companion quests and may sacrifice self for others, saves everyone if possible but can get themselves into trouble doing so. (Compatible with: Reader and Extrovert)

Apologist - trudges through all games of chosen series even if undesirable. (Compatible with: Completionist)

I fit well into several of the gamer types.

White Knight: I can't bring myself NOT to help someone in need in a game, and I will often try to save every possible character from harm.

Exterminator: I have a compulsive tendency to clear areas of all enemies, but this is also because I like to explore in peace. That, and I kinda sorta like shooting bad people in the face. A lot. I still care about dialogue and story, though.

Character Creator: if it CAN be tweaked, it WILL be tweaked!

Completionist: I have a penchant for exploring every inch of a map, but don't typically go for 100% on trophies and items because I don't have time in real life. I will often also end up grinding away at an RPG and end up getting bored and quitting for a while, at which point I feel compelled to restart the whole game. I have done this with Star Ocean: Till the End of Time about 4 times now after 50-100+ hours on a game run... I still haven't finished it... But I will! Someday.

Hoarder: I need to grab every weapon I can carry, and the only real reason to use God Mode in Elder Scrolls for me is to pick up every weapon so I can drop them off at home. I do spend money a lot, though, but that's a personal issue. I really like shiny stuff. And don't get me started on shiny stuff on sale...

Of course there is no "one size fits all" way to categorize gamers, but I did enjoy the analysis of the compatibility of various types of gamers. What I really appreciated in this series is the lack of attention to the notion of "hardcore" and "casual" gamers. Personally, I believe that if you enjoy gaming in whatever form then you are a "gamer". Sure, some are more outspoken and spend more time on this hobby than others, but typically the differentiation is typically used to put down people who do not game every waking and free moment, or take gaming so seriously that their ego depends on it. Whether you categorize yourself within either of these two roles, you will typically find that you will fit into several of the categories from this series.

I think it would be nice to see this integrated with the Gamespot Players Network (GSPN), which does have its own gamer categories, but I think I prefer the series' analysis to the ones registered on GSPN, especially when it comes to compatibility. I thought that was pretty neat! I'd also like to see what gamer types do not get along per this analysis, because I know that I don't get along well with Speed Runners if I haven't played through a game myself, Ultimate Evil Doers in general, Difficulty Snobs because I just don't have the energy or Apologists because if a game isn't good, I don't want to play it (again with the lack of energy thing).

Did you guys watch the series? What did you think?

Exterminator: I've always had a certain compulsion of killing everything in my sight if I have the power to. I spent hours clearing out every town in Fallout3. When I get to that maximum power status, in any game, well, let's just say my inner beast takes over.

Reader: I enjoy lore a lot. One of the main reasons I fell in love with Dark Souls, the mysterious atmosphere the game's lore has, getting a bit more of the lore, via item description or npc dialogue, was more rewarding than any rare weapon.

Ghost: What can I say, I love the idea of manipulating people from the shadows. Main reason I fell in love with Dishonored.

Ultimate Evil Doer: You can guess what ending I got when I first finished Dishonored. I played it again to get the "good" ending, though it wasn't nearly as much fun as being the dreaded Masked Felon, wanted for the murders of pretty much every non-essential npc in the game. I guess I'm just rotten inside...

Here's what I generally fit into...

Ghost: I like to use stealth when I can. I often sneak around with a silenced weapon or bow & arrow to silently work my way through dungeons or enemy bases.

Hoarder: It isn't as much about items as it is about money, I like money and usually find myself saving up as much as I can in RPGs.

Exterminator: I like to make sure I've cleared the room I'm in before continuing on, but it's not a necessity

White Knight: though I prefer my armor Daedric, I am the ultimate good guy. I defend people, I give them money, and I try to solve most conflicts as peacefully as possible.

Im a min/maxer, analyst, builder, and exterminator.  Compatibility doesn't work well for me i like hybrid genres too much.

Hey I'm new to the whole Gamespot Blog thing and this post caught my eye!I'm definitely an introvert, reader and cheap gamer/apologist in a sense.I mostly game on my old gen XBOX

because games are so cheap used. Not to mention the lower rated ones.I'm at a point in my  life where family takes precedent over  gaming so i must look to the bargain bin in search of  that cheap video game fix.I'm also pretty nostalgic about my sport games so i try to get the most out of  3 dollar outdated sport games rather than drop 60 on a next gen title.

@pachuco123 that makes a lot of sense, and it's good to put family above gaming :) i do hope you enjoy gamespot, though!

@zyxe I do ZYXe,although i'm mostly into the mindless older stuff,it's still cool to see the video game industry transcend.

The catalogue doesn't include mine favourite style which is: Methodical/Tactical (compatible with Exterminator), which finds application mostly in action adventure, or horror adventure games. The player is very conservative: "strike and retreat", quickly exit-reenter area for enemies to be repositioned, save often, re-load if not happy with the performance and always make small steps until the area is clear. A very recent example fro this style is Dishonored.

Also I'm a White Knight. In fact I find it very difficult to do evil things in games. I think I have only tortured pixels in Just Cause 2, Dead Rising 2, Grand Theft Auto 3 & 4, Syphon Filter 1,2,3, InFamous and 80 more titles.

zyxe like.author.displayName 1 Like

@Rheinmetal i kind of strike the same way in a lot of games, strike/reposition/wait/strike when ready again... i see it as a sort of hybrid between ghost, exterminator and analyst. i can't even say how many time i reloaded on DE:HR when i wanted to draw all the enemies in a huge room through a corridor and gas them with one mine... >:D

Rheinmetal
Rheinmetal

@zyxe ha I know exactly what you mean. Abusing the save-load feature when available. :-) I think I did the same in DE:HR. If a game is hard what else we can do...

Here are my gamer types and the games where I demonstrate those character traits:

Exterminator: Assassins Creed III, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Borderlands 2, Ninja Gaiden

Introvert: Madden 13, NBA 2k13, Fight Night Champion, Gran Turismo 5 (I prefer these games alone and offline, playing online is hardly ever fun or interesting.. I prefer the 'casual' experience.)

Ghost: Assassins Creed 3, Skyrim, Dishonored

Character Builder:  Skyrim, Dark Souls, Gran Turismo 5 (Car tuning and customization)

As I've mentioned before (though the comments of the videos throughout), I'd pretty much say my strongest suits are mostly all traits from ep 2--with 'the reader' (I'm naturally an avid reader outside of gaming so it just carries over), 'introvert', analyst' (I love things that make me think and I'm generally good w/ puzzle solving and logic-based thinking) being the strong and nice dash of builder--mainly because of my OCD in how I like my stuff in games like Sims 3, lol. My far stronger one than the regular 'builder' trait definitely would be the 'character builder' one instead thought because being an avid Simmer and regular RPG player, this are the things I totally obsess over, like complete OCD level--lol. Literally no lie, I've had times where I've spent entire evenings not even playing Sims 3 (or back when I played Sims 2), but rather scouring Sims community sites looking custom hair, clothes, patterns, and other mods.

I can also relate to White Knight one to because I simply just can't help not being nice to people and trying to help, lol. And I sheepishly have to admit that I can so fall into doing the hoarder too. I'm also an apologist, but I'd say it loosely to the fact that while I will tend to play (or own) most games in a series I really love, I do have my limits. I can get on the whole 'DmC' shit but let me NOT EVEN get that started.....

The other traits like: completionist,, exterminator, ghost, are either minimal, at best or depend on what I'm playing. For example, I don't have no qualms about taking on exterminator mode to clear out a room of mofo's, lol, but that just depends on if I'm in that 'f*ck some s*** up' mood, lol. Then there might be times where I take out just enough bodies so I can get pass or where I need to go. Ghosting is a similar thing, largely b/c I admittedly suck at being completely stealthy, lol. I'm not much on being a 'completionist' to the extent where I want to sit and to every last thing in a game, on very difficulty level--but if it's certain task within a game that I feel I want to do and start it then 'yes' I will do it until it's complete. But mostly my idea of completion comes simply from 'completing' the game over all and hitting the end credits. I don't care if get all the trophies in game or if I 'Plat'--whatever trophies/achievements (whatever you wanna call them) I get, is whatever I get. Life is too short and there are FAR TOO MANY games out there for me to be wasting away my time trying to complete every single thing in one game (is can also apply to 'difficulty snob' trait, too).

And the ones I definitely don't care about would be: difficulty snob, extrovert, speedrunner, ultimate evil doer.

For some reason i couldn't care less about trophies and collecting everything except for the lego games! Maybe because getting 100% is easier to achieve in those games? Apart from that it really depends on the game.

DiamondDM13

Watched it. I think that most types get along well. I personally fit into all the types. It depends mostly on the interest I have for the game and how the game is. This means I can get along with all types, so long as I find the people in the same mindset. Say, for example, I'm playing RE6. We have a sort of indication for what the player is expecting when playing, like: "Playing For Fun", "Serious Players Only" and stuff like that. Helps finding other people very quickly.

Thank you so much for compiling this brief list.  I saw the first video posted the other day and thought, "You know, that sounds kind of interesting Gamespot, maybe I will watch this!"  ...And then there was a second video, and a third, and apparently a fourth so I was like wt??? and never watched any of them lol.  But now I know!

I'm not gonna list the ones that fit me, since I guess depending on the game I can play a bit differently.  Well, I guess completionist and character builder are the best descriptions for me.  But I think I'm having an easier time figuring out which of these titles aren't me, than I am figuring out which ones are.  lol.

@Ovirew thanks! that's why i did it, because i was bouncing back and forth and like to have something written to fall back on.

Completionist- Most of the time I attempt 100% completion because it is so much fun, while others I see it as a duty to myself to get everything.  For instance, getting 400 riddles in Batman Arkham City is not easy, however I knew if i did not get them all that I would never forget about it

Reader- I like to know what is going on in the story and other side missions.  I would assume most people are the reader, however it described me well.

Ghost- Whenever I play a game that throws you a situation of stealth, but if you are seen you can just beat up or shoot your way out of it, I go for the stealth.  many times if my cover is blown I will restart the mission just to be stealthy,

White Knight- None of these dexcribed me very well at all, but since in Red Dead Redemption I worked my honor towards the good side, I quess Im a white knight.  Whenever I go to my friens house to play GTA thouhg, Im completely an ultimate evil doer.

@learningpuppy Where there is this kind of system such as RDR, KOTODR II or Fallout i'll generaly be a "good" guy.

I am an analist with traits of other categories. Completionist - I used to care about this, but I realized that I get more joy by playing several games instead of spending too much time in one game. Speed Runner - I do not rush at games, but I am very goal oriented, usually the end of a level, so It's very unusual for me to play the same game for more than 2 hours. That being said I'm a sucker for cutscenes, and I fell that they are my reward for playing throught a hard level for instance. Exterminator/Hoarder: I love hack & slash games but I am not a exterminator, as I don't care about leaving alive enemies. But I fell bad whenever I don't collect something. Extrovert/Introvert: Co-op only with people in the same room, but I love to play 1x1 game online, no chat. Reader: I love to read everything in the game, but I hate games that have too much to read (RPGs). Builder: I like to build communities (civ, simcity) not houses (the sims, minecraft). Don't care about in other types of game. Analyst: The one category that I fit perfectly. Games like Portal, Braid and point and click adventures are between my favourites. Ghost: I like stealth games. Don't consider myself a Ghost thought. Difficulty Snob: I am immensily proud for having completed ninja gaiden black, so the only tipe of game that I play on the hardest level are hack and slash games. Min/Maxer: I get a huge amount of joy by developing crazy plans to max things while playing manager games. On other genres I try to not think about it. Character builder: Don't care about it, I usually build a digital version of myself in real life. UED/White Knight: I feel superbad if I do something bad in a game, But I'm too goal oriented to be a White Knight. Apologist: I sometimes buy poorly reviewes games If they belong to a series that I love and there is something atractive for me in those games. I rarely regret.

I guess I am more of a Ghost than anything else. Explain my tendency to use the knife as my primary weapon in BF3 or playing as an adept in ME3 (just love flinging combos).

As @experience_fade said, it really depends on the game. All I can say is what I am not - never and nowhere do I play like a Ghost :D At one point or another, I was (and I am) everything else, depending on the game. It would be really interesting to have a scale showing which styles do I (if only slightly) prefer, but I really can't say myself.

Great. Now I know, why I never do well with MMO?Really. I could finish Final Fantasy titles or Torchlight multiple times. But, with MMO, when I reached, say, level 20 I'm always like, "Meh.."

experience_fade
experience_fade

I think labels oversimplify reality in just about any situation, this one included.

It really depends on the game -- for instance, if raising the difficulty gives me some tangible in-game reward, then I'll consider upping the difficulty for that purpose (racing games like Forza do this). That doesn't make me a Difficulty Snob.

or Ghost: in some games like Skyrim, being stealthy has huge rewards -- you do way more damage, you can pickpocket/steal to be more rich, and you can infiltrate hostile areas and get an idea of the best way to handle your goal... but in Dishonored, most of your special abilities (and thus, enjoyment for me) are only enjoyed from not being stealthy, for the most part.

So it depends, I can see arguments for both sides with myself for most of these labels.

RobDev

@experience_fade Exactly, sometimes it's not even the game but the mood you are in! Pointless labels really. No body is any one of these and nothing else!

I guess I fit well into the Introvert since I mostly play solo. almost level 30 in BL2 I haven't used matchmaking yet. I plan to try it on an alt character after I'm done with my main mechromancer.

White Knight, completionist, extrovert .   I used to say that playing good is nice but playing evil is fun but could never force myself to be evil in a game.

For example in  Fable every time I played I turned the Darkwood Bordello into a refuge for abused women and I always turned in Lady Gray for killing her little sister even though the reward for being mean was higher and I know they are just characters in a game.

As for completionist - I am not obsessed with 100% in my games  but I do have a compunction to explore every nook and cranny of every place I see when there is time.

Extrovert applies because I have been addicted to several MMOs and have had to quit because I spend so much time online with them.    I run or help with guilds and  help newbies learn the games.   I specialized in guilds that had young people and we would guild the kids and help protect them from some of the rude guys that you know are using the anonymity of the internet to act all creepy.

I never had the highest characters but I managed to compete.

Sword-Demon
Sword-Demon

as for me:

Completionist- I'm only a completionist with games I really love. when I do love a game, it makes me want to explore every aspect of it, see everything, get everything, do everything.

Speed Runner- I'm not much of a speed runner. I prefer to play at my own pace and take in what the game has to offer.

Exterminator- I really do hate leaving enemies unkilled; it just feels wrong.

Introvert/Extrovert- I am extremely introverted when it comes to gaming. the only MP game I play regularly is TF2; almost everything else is solo play.

Reader- I'm not one for dialogue heavy games, but I do love when a game's story is told through lore (demon's/dark souls, metroid prime) and I tend to read everything I can find in those games.

Builder- I'm not much of a builder. I've tried it a few times, but I'm just bad at it.

Analyst- I love physics, puzzles, and strategy games. anything that makes me use my head to win.

Ghost- I love stealth, especially offensive stealth where I can clear a room of enemies without them even knowing I was there. I can enjoy playing more defensively, going through a game without killing or being detected, but the exterminator in me just makes me wanna kill everything.

Hoarder- I do tend to hoard, which is why I hate it when games have weight/inventory limits.

Difficulty Snob- I enjoy challenges, and games that are too easy bore me, but not to the point where I have to play at max difficulty or pass up good games that are a little on the casual side.

Min/Maxer- like with the completionist, I become a min/maxer when I really love a game. I plan out what stats to get and what items to use and whatnot.

Character Builder- I really like building characters, but, like with the builder, I'm not great at it (especially when the creators are more complex).

UED/White Knight- I'm definitely more of a white knight. in games like infamous or mass effect, I'll always play the good guy first; then after I beat it, I'll play it again as the bad guy to see the differences. but I have no problems with evil games with no karma system (like overlord)

Apologist- I can sometimes be a small apologist. when a game comes out for a series I love, even if it gets lower scores and upsets the fans, I have to try it myself. after that, though, I'm very careful about buying the next game in the series. for example, I knew RE5 would disappoint me, but I had to try it anyway (and disappoint me it did); but that disappointment in RE5 kept me from getting RE6.

I didn't watch the GameSpot videos but, from that list, I'd say I recognize myself in, at least, a couple of those categories. My personal opinion on each would go something like:

Completionist - I used to be one of these, before the age of achievements and trophies. Nowadays, games demand too much for me to care, like... killing over 200 monsters with each individual weapon or character. I have no patience for that. However, trying to get 100% completion in older games, especially if there was an extra ending, sure.

Speed Runner - I admire those who do 'Proper Speed Runs' - and by this I mean the people who actually play the whole game with skill. People who call themselves 'speed runners' but all they do is glitch the game to see the ending are not 'speed runners', just cheaters. That said, I'm not a speed runner myself, but I enjoy watching the works of art made by those who are.

Exterminator - Like 'completionist', I used to be one of these, especially in RPGs where there was always the benefit of XP and Gold for every kill. Games of other genres taught me that killing everything is a waste of time, so I slowly moved away from this. I still feel the temptation, but I tend to move on now... even on RPGs (later enemies will provide more XP, anyway).

Extrovert - Considering how most multiplayer gamers are only interested in helping themselves, I tend to avoid them, so this isn't me. However, when playing with real life friends, I can be quite the extrovert. So... don't really know if this fits me or not.

Reader - This is the first category I wholeheartedly fit in. I literally spend as much time as possible learning about the land, the people, the history, etc - being talking to NPCs, reading books or whatever.

Builder - Not for me. I enjoy the building part, but hate the gathering of resources part.

Introvert - Same opinion as 'Extrovert', just roles reversed. I play mostly on my own, but enjoy the multiplayer action when I know and trust the people I'm playing with.

Analyst - Once again, I 'used' to be one of these, but not anymore. The Incredible Machine was a great game, back in the day, but I changed.

Ghost - This one is funny. Several years ago I loved this type of gameplay, but lacked the talent, usually rushing where I shouldn't and stuff. Now, I don't care for this type of game so much, but I find I have just the right timing for almost everything. Scary, huh? Appropriately, like a 'Ghost'.

Hoarder - I tend to grab everything that isn't screwed to the ground, and even then I'll look around for a screwdriver - just in case it can be unscrewed - but I don't hoard it. If I have no use for it, then I try to sell it for cash. If it has no monetary value, than I lose interest and leave it or drop it.

Difficulty Snob - Not only I'm NOT one of these people, I hate them with a passion. Let's leave it at that.

Min/Maxer - Like the 'Difficulty Snob', I hate Min/Maxers. Especially when they think their way to approach the game is the 'right' way, while everyone else who plays different is a 'noob' - apparently because their small brains can't comprehend the notion of someone having fun playing something 'different' or 'original'.

Character Builder - The second category I feel totally confortable with (along with Reader, see above). Unlike some people who simply use character creation tools to make the characters look and feel similar to themselves, I prefer to have fun trying out different types of character. The more options, the merrier I am.

Ultimate Evil Doer - I'm a firm believer that 'Good' and 'Evil' don't exist, they are just social labels for what is or isn't accepted within a society. That being said, going against society's rules can be fun, as it allows us to do in a game what we can't - or wouldn't - in real life, but I personally don't go out of my way to do those things. It depends on the game and what benefit may come from it.

White Knight - Same as 'Ultimate Evil Doer'. I don't go out of my way to save everyone, unless there's a clear in-game benefit for it.

Apologist - Not the same as a fanboy, I believe. I've played through a complete series of games before, not because I loved them or thought they were great, but because I wanted to give the game a chance to surprise me further into it. Most of the time, it didn't... but it gave me the moral right to complaint about those games. I find many people criticize certain games because 'it's hip to do so', but it's clear from their arguments (if any are even given) that they didn't even play it (Atari 2600 'ET', Nintendo 64 'Superman', any 'Call of Duty', etc)

So, in short, yes... I'm a Reader (and a Writer, judging by this post) and a Character Builder, with shades of a few others (depending on circunstances). There are probably other ways to categorize gamers, though... but thank you for the post, it brings food for thought.

If i like the game like dead space, god of war,dmc or dishonored i ll. do everything to finish the game n kill every single object in my way and maybe play the game again later to complete it.... I dont like online games bcoz am in saudia n the net still not that perfect n fast.... And like always to play solo .... I think i can fit many of these characters not just a one bcoz its also depend on ur mood while u playing the game....

one thing i remembered about myself in gaming is that i like to slaughter everyone in my path even in stealth mode.  and no that does not mean i'm going on a shooting rampage on the top of a water tower, i just dont have the patience to knock them out, carry them to a corner, drop them off, cover them with a blanket, sauve their wounds, yada yada.  fun post

@philMcCrevis i'm the same with deus ex: HR, even though i stealth as much as possible, i have to kill everyone on the map so i can explore without worry. you should check my steam screens of the piles of bodies i like to accumulate in any given level :D

I need a new category for myself:  buys lots of games, plays many games for a few hours but is rarely captivated enough to finish a game.  Mostly plays solo because I'm not really skilled enough for online play.  Misses the glory days of gaming - Unreal Tounrament, Starcraft 1, Diablo 1 and is slow to adapt to new games.

I'm sure I generally fall into several of the above categories if I studied them more thoroughly.

Didn't watch it, but I can definitely fit myself into many of those categories, though I don't limit myself to just those playing styles of course.

I am definitively :

Completitionnist : I always try to get everything in the games I play and now I try to get the highest number of Trophies/Acheivements for my game if their is nothing else to go. I don't play many games but once I stop playing it, I have 100% or close to it. In Okami I miss only one beads ... I know where it is and how to get it I just never been able to, otherwise I have every other thing. In FFX, I have every ultimate weapon and I have every monsters for the monster arena ... etc etc

Introvert : I played Mortal Kombat online and it is that and not that much either I have like 40 match hahaha I really don't enjoy online, but in the old time where you had split screen and more friend into videogames yeah I liked it... now playing with stranger that says a lot of sh*t not enjoyable at all.

Reader : In RPGs I read a lot just to be sure I understand what is going on. I remember that in RE1 I read everything and their were part where it was really creapy. In Final Fantasy I read a lot. I ead in Fallout3 but at one point I stop caring about people.

Apologist : I have every Final Fantasy games avalaible in Canada and ... I found a way to enjoy them all. I also have all God Of War, I played every Devil May cry but I don't own them all since I really didn't like many of them ( yes I finish them before saying ... no I won,t buy it ). I have every Mega Man(classic and X serie). As a kid I played more various game but in this generation ... I was let down a lot and I'm older so I have less them to play so I go with what I know I like and stop play games that I'm not so sure about or I avoid some publisher especially Capcom, Activision and EA.

Major:

Introvert = My ratio Singleplayer vs Multiplayer is about 90% / 10%...

Hoarder = I very often found my bags are full fast, especially in non-linear games...

Minor:

Exterminator = I prefer eliminating an enemy over sneak passing him... One less pair of eyes that can detect me and one less enemy to bite me in the ass later...

Builder = Playing RTS, I usually take my time building a 'safe' base before moving to attack mode or taking the time to build my cities before expanding in Civilization games... I also like games like SimCity or The Settlers...

Analyst = I like the puzzle-solving part of games... Be it solving a tricky puzzle, figuring how I can survive an RTS attack, finding the best way to progress in a sneak-like game, thinking of a good way to stay alive in a survival game, etc...

Ghost = I'm fond of games like Thief, Deus Ex or Dishonored... Also, I'll usually prefer sneaking my way in a Far Cry 3 outpost over entering it gun blazing...

Definitely Not:

Completitionist = I rarely get the 100% completion, unless the game is really, really good... I usually find trying everything hidden (or not) in a game a waste of time... I can think of only one or two Steam games that I have each and every Acheivements unlocked...

Speed Runner = Complete opposite, actually... I often take more time to finish a game than the time a review says it is necessary...

Reader = I like a good lore or a good story, but opening every books and reading them, not my forte...

I may collect books in Skyrim, but I rarely read them unless it's needed for a quest or I'm curious about the subject. Instead, I'll open then close them, just to see if it gives me a bonus...

Difficulty Snobs = I play games to have fun, not to try to prove that I'm one of the best or to get totally stressed or tired after playing than before I'm playing... Not a fan of Meatboy, as you can guess...

Character builder = Just not the patience for it... I spend some time making a character I can like, then it's Start Playing time...

Apologist = Cute name for Fanboy... I'll definitely not defend a shitty game for the sake of being fan of the serie or the company making it, or trying to justify that I spent big money on it... Diablo 3 is shelved (probably forever) and I'm ashamed Mass Effect 3 did so well in the People Choice vote this year, even if I liked the first two games and the Mass Effect lore as a whole...

@3Minotaur3 i like your take on the apologist hehe. i think it was a nice way to put it in the series.

in all honesty, though, i actually DID play ME1 twice because i really liked it. i swear..... >.>

 @zyxe

You're not alone, I got 3 playthroughs of ME1 myself... Of these, only one where I managed to make Saren shot himself. I was really impressed then, dispatching a 'boss' only with words!... Last time I remember I could do that was in the first Fallout... But then the metallic parts of Saren started to rises... O-o

And then ME2 came out and I couldn't play ME1 anymore... Probably the non-Completitionist in me couldn't stand the Mako-searching part anymore... ;-)

We need a Short attention span gamer:  Loads game, gets cup of coffee, mows the lawn, folds some laundry, remembers the game, starts the game answers the phone, logs into gamespot to read about the game before playing it.  Remves the game and loads up another.

This reminds me of the briggs-myers personality classification test.  I was an INTP.  apparently only 1% of the world falls into that, which explains why i'm a freak.  Unless a "label" says something like:  Savior of man kind, spiritual leader to the people and smarter than everyone, bla bla bla then I don't like labels :)

@philMcCrevis  @3Minotaur3 how did you know exactly what i'm doing when i load a game? THAT's freaky... ;)

the nice thing about labels is that you are free to rewrite them. so, if someone sticks a note on your back with something you don't like, get some white out then write: "savior of man kind, spiritual leader to the people and smarter than everyone"... hehe

I'm probably a Ghost.  Also in Elder Scrolls I am sort of an Ultimate Evil Doer...I kill anything.  I remember in Morrowind I killed like every civilian and guard.  So I didn't even play through the main story and I couldn't go on any quests?  You know why?  Because I killed anyone.  Even the ones on those hidden islands in the middle of the oceans.  Even the people in the tribes with thier little yurts.  And I'm a ghost because I prefer stealth games.

Hard to say what kind of gamer you are when all these profiles could blend together according to the game you play and what you want to achieve in it.

@CUDGEdave as long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters! :) after all, isn't that the general purpose of gaming, to get enjoyment out of it? if you do every time, then you may in fact be the BEST gamer ever ;)
